Gilbert Jeremy Gottfried (February 28, 1955 - April 12, 2022) was an American stand-up comedian, actor and voice actor notable for his shrill voice and crude, sometimes controversial, humor. He is well-known for his voice roles such as that of Iago in Aladdin as well as the original voice of the Aflac Duck.

He was born on February 28, 1955 in Brooklyn, New York. He got his career doing local comedy routines, until Saturday Night Live noticed him and hired him as a cast member for twelve episodes in 1980. His stint with SNL was his first big break.

Gottfried was also a recurring guest on Tim Bergeron's game show, Hollywood Squares. Famously, at one time on the game show, Gottfried had intentionally answered incorrect questions nine consecutive times, six of which were to be game-deciding questions. After all of the questions except the first one he was asked, Gottfried berated the contestants by shouting "You fool!"

Role in AVGN[]

On April 12, 2022, he died in his Manhattan home from recurrent ventricular tachycardia, complicated by type II myotonic dystrophy. He had kept his condition private.
