General Dark Onward

Portrayed by
Stephen Mendel
Military general
First Appearance

General Dark Onward is a fictional character and the central antagonist of Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie and as a boss in The Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures 2: ASSimilation. General Dark Onward is the head of security at Area 51. He is also responsible for having the E.T. Atari 2600 games recalled, bulldozed and buried at the Atari landfill at Alamogordo, New Mexico, which was done because it was discovered that they included the floor plans to Area 51. It was Onward's plan to have the metal of the Roswell UFO reverse-engineered into a working spaceship that could be used to bring about American world domination. He also had a vehemently xenophobic attitude towards anything non-American and foreign, even likening tourists to terrorists.

In the end his own xenophobia brought him to his own downfall, as he charged towards the newly reformed alien spaceship at the Atari landfill in a tank, only for the tank to drive over the edge of the massive hole created by the telekinetically risen games, causing the tank to fall and explode, blowing Dark Onward up.

Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie[]

He drives around in a wheelchair-tank. He also seems to be losing both his arms in the film. Dark Onward has an assistant in the movie named Sergeant McButter.

In 1983, General Dark Onward was involved in the government's recalling of all the E.T. Atari 2600 games, after it came to its attention that the game's design was based off of the floor plan to Area 51. The government also found out who was responsible: Dr. Lois Zandor, a former Area 51 aerospace and reverse engineer, who had been fired after refusing to reconstruct the alien spaceship that had crash-landed in Rosswell, New Mexico as he believed it would give the United States far too much power over the rest of the world. Although General Dark Onward was not aware of it, Lois Zandor had also managed to steal the spaceship's metal, replacing the metal in the secret base with ordinary tin foil, which the original metal looked quite like to begin with.

General Dark Onward has an assistent with whom he works closely, named Sergeant Molly McButter.

Throughout the movie, General Dark Onward lose both his arms, his left to his own hand grenade and his right to the automatic sliding door of the control room at Area 51. The idea was to have a self-destructive villain - it is a common and classic aspect of many fictional villains that their own evil nature will somehow be their own downfall. It is also implied that he has a lot of these accidents often, which is the reason he is leg-less and always sitting in a mini tank chair.

General Dark Onward was killed in a fiery explosion when the tank he was comandeering drove into the pit in the Atari landfill that had been created after the E.T. game cartridges had been drawn out of the ground by the power of the Alien.

The Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures 2: ASSimilation[]

Dark Onward appears as the main boss of Area 52 in Area 52 4 Onwards and Backwards with his first form as he appeared in the movie and his second form being a giant mechanical scorpion being a nod to the "Star Wars Games" episode in which Darth Vader in the Namco Famicom Star Wars game becomes a scorpion in the Jawa Sandcrawler.

In the Angry Video Game Nerd I & II Deluxe, he was replaced by Dark Invader, a combination of Darth Vader from Star Wars franchise and Dalek from Doctor Who series, as the intellectual property license of Dark Onward is owned by Screenwave Media.
