Area 51, officially known as Groom Lake or Homey Airport, is the name of an top-secret American military and government air force base located in the southern region of the Nevada desert. For many years the base has been rumored to house one or more UFOs and extraterrestrial alien creatures, although according to the US government it is used to test new, experimental aircrafts. The plot of Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie involves Area 51, where the head of security is General Dark Onward, who is attempting to rebuild the alien spacecraft that crash-landed in Rosswell, New Mexico in 1947. The base is also called Dreamland. The men in black, as well as several soldiers, guards and scientists such as surgeons and engineers, work in the Area 51 base.

According to the film, the E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial game, known in the movie as Eee Tee: the Extra-Special Alien for legal reasons, is in reality a map to Area 51, using a floor plan of the base given to game designer Howard Scott Warshaw by Area 51 reverse-engineer and spacecraft builder, Dr Louis Zandor, for which he was imprisoned.

Surveillance room

This room is split in two sections, being dominated by a huge curvy wall in the center with dials and monitors on it. Next to this wall, the head of Area 51, General Dark Onward, has a kind of office with his own personal desk and television screen used for long-distance communication with military units and for displaying surveillance things, such as scans done by the men-in-blsck, as with when they scanned the Nerdmobile for possibly containing something dangerous. The various monitors can also display live feeds from hidden cameras around the Nevada desert, and outside as well, as seen with the camo camera at the Atari Landfill in Almogordo, New Mexico. The Area 51 staff even employs heat signature cameras. On the wall next to Dark Onward, there is a big red button used for activating missiles hidden in the desert right under the Rocky ground, and there is a phone on the wall used by the men-in-black. Further in the back, directly behind General Onward, Sergeant McButter has a computer that she works on. The surveillance room is operated mostly by the mysterious men-in-black.
